LJ COPAS is co-founder of the regional hit band The Copas Brothers in the mid 1970s. The Local Hit Band called Okra which featured he and Jeff Pollard of Leroux fame was where LJ first appeared on the Baton Rouge music scene in 1971 before he started forming the Copas Brothers in 1973. The next 5 years were spent traveling on tours with the Brothers riding on the Outlaw Country Wave. He then went on to play guitar and sing with the BeeGee's Studio Band on Airline Hwy for a year and recorded at SeaSaint Studios in New Orleans.
He performed shows with Willie Nelson,David Allan Coe, Jimmy Buffet, Jerry Jeff Walker, Guy Clark,Delbert McClinton, Asleep at the Wheel, Waylon Jennings,Vanilla Fudge, Boxtops, Lightnin Hopkins, Hermans Hermits,
Animals, Black Oak Arkansas, Doug Kershaw, Hank Willams,Jr., Tom Waits, Jeff Pollard of Leroux, The Meters, Dr John and others. He has performed at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in Scotland, Joe Reeds In Aspen, CO and The Little Bear in Evergreen, CO. Other places he has played include Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX, and The Space Cowboy Jamboree in Baton Rouge, LA
He currently performs as a Solo Artist, Duo with Steve Smith, Trio, Quartet and a full 5 piece band.
L J was playing at Mexican Restaurants in the
Atlanta, Ga area for 2 years before moving back to his home town of Baton Rouge in July of 2007. He has since been playing in BR over the last 3 years
